Although I’ve been on a few traveling adventures with my little Lola, we don’t always take flight to see new things or learn about another culture. Sometimes, it just takes a few tolls and some car mileage. Since the holiday season is upon us and Ikea doesn’t seem to disappoint with reasonable homewares to freshen up the pad, I thought it might be fun to take a little visit to Sweden… (or the next best thing).
Although Ikea can be enjoyable for an adult, I did not expect it to be such an amusing space for a toddler. my little one absolutely loved it! She rolled around in each little bed she came across, she was mesmerized by the pattern-play of the textiles, and every curtain served as the perfect hideaway. Tall, short, wide or narrow… every mirror was the perfect opportunity to dance with her own reflection. I’m always so thrilled at observing her fascination when exploring new surroundings. She definitely loved the eccentric toys and pint-sized seating most of all. Who would have thought that a retail store would give a toddler a taste of culture while proving to be the perfect playground.
The trip to Ikea reminded me of an exhibit we’ve been wanting to check out… the Swedish Wooden Toys exhibit at the Bard Graduate Center Gallery in NYC. I guess now that I know she appreciates the Scandinavian design, it’s worth visiting. If you’re feeling up to it, details of the exhibit are in the new, “what’s happening” page.
