Empathy, Kindness & Respect Go a Long Way

Hola Familias,

I hope this message finds you well. As we navigate these challenging times, I want to share some personal reflections with you.

At Lola’s, we are more than just a community; we are a family. Each day, I am inspired by the dedication and passion our educators and staff bring to nurturing our children. Their unwavering commitment is the heartbeat of our community.

However, I’ve noticed moments where the respect and appreciation our team deserves may not always be fully expressed. While most of our families consistently show support and gratitude, there have been instances where our staff have felt undervalued. This concerns me deeply.

Recent events have highlighted a diminishing recognition of important cultural observances, such as Black History Month. For instance, some organizations have chosen to remove these celebrations from their calendars, citing various reasons. This trend is disheartening and contributes to heightened tensions, especially for people of color. At Lola’s, we believe that acknowledging and celebrating our diverse histories enriches our collective experience. It’s essential that we continue to honor these observances, not just during designated months, but throughout the year.

I understand that the current climate can amplify emotions, and for many people of color, microaggressions can feel particularly pronounced. It’s essential for all of us to be mindful of how our words and actions impact others. Simple gestures like saying “please” and “thank you” can foster a more inclusive and respectful environment.

I encourage everyone to address microaggressions when they occur—not with hostility, but as teachable moments. By approaching these situations with empathy and a willingness to educate, we can collectively cultivate a community rooted in understanding and mutual respect.

Our goal at Lola’s is to create a space where everyone—children, parents, educators, and staff—feels valued and heard. Let’s work together to embody empathy, practice humility, and build a better world for our future.

With love,

Lola & Tots
