here comes halloween

If there’s one thing my girl squad shares is our love for holidays, events and parties. I guess it makes sense for my little FOMO-having little ones to enjoy it all as much as I do… I mean, they are mine. Sometimes people ask me how do I have the energy for certain activities but, to be honest, I enjoy creating memories. I think back to my own childhood and I always recall how cool it felt to celebrate moments, it’s what I remember the most.

Since Halloween is a fave one of ours, we are totally those peeps that do the scary movie and tunes way before the spooky holiday creeps in. I know kids love to go trick-or-treating and pumpkin-picking (and I do too, don’t get me wrong) but there’s more than a candy binge or a farm trip to make it special. Here are some of the activities we love that make it even more fun:

  • We are all about costume planning and making. I always talk about what we might envision or want and seeing it come together, from a picture out of the internet to our own real-life interpretation is super exciting.

  • Pumpkin decorating with a twist is always a good time. I love getting down and dirty but carving is just not my thing. An alternative is always paint, stickers and even colorful golf tees to hammer into a cool design or shape. You can make it thematic to match children’s costumes or even match to your home decor to keep around through the month of November.

  • Recently, while at Target, we picked up a cardboard Create Your Own Haunted House which will add a little more artistic expression for my three girls with tons of coloring fun while having them focus on one shared activity.

  • While a candy might be eaten here and there, I realize little ones love helping with the Halloween goodie bags they will be sharing with friends. Divvying up the sweets and treats in assembly line style allows them to participate, help, and work together.

  • Visiting a farm and corn maize is fun but, have you checked out some neighborhood houses for a little haunted fun (or photo op)? We started taking a drive to Ditmas Park to visit the scariest, clown-friendly Victorian home. If you are in Brooklyn or surrounding area, be sure to check it out.

  • Lastly, it would not feel like spooky season without the right movies and soundtracks. Some of our favorite kid-friendly movies are Hocus Pocus, the Addams Family, Casper and Beetlejuice. And… it seems we don’t share a car ride lately without listening to Thriller, Monster Mash, I Put a Spell on You, The Addams Family and the Ghostbusters theme song.

Enjoy some looks from previous years and have yourself a Happy Halloween season!
